Infrastructure Design
DMSP works with the client teams to design the best possible infrastructure within the budget that has been established. The staff is comprised of network and server architects, network engineers, Unix engineers, mainframe engineers, and Microsoft server administrators. The combined talent of DMSP is brought to bear when designing the environment required to meet your needs.
Part of every design is a comprehensive security analysis. DMSP works with your team to insure a secure environment.
DMSP has designed and implemented the infrastructure to support a single Web site, a Web site with a backend database connected to a LAN environment, and internal applications with separate database engines running over gigabit or fiber-channel backbones.
Hosting Services
DMSP hosts numerous Web sites, applications, and databases across multiple platforms consisting of hundreds of servers. These platforms include Sun, HP/Compaq, IBM, and Dell. DMSP has designed Internet connections to insure continuous access to all Web-enabled applications.
All components within the NOC are monitored for availability 24x7. DMSP can also monitor the services running on specific servers if required by the client. Tools used for monitoring include OpenView, CiscoWorks, Insight Manager and Open Manage.
Website Monitoring
DMSP provides web site hosting and monitoring of external web sites.
When predefined thresholds are reached, service alerts are sent and the
appropriate action is taken.
The DMSP Operations staff has the ability to access the Web site
from outside the firewall to assist in problem determination/resolution.
Administration of Server Hardware
DMSP has extensive experience in supporting Sun, HP/Compaq, IBM, and Dell equipment. All production hardware is under vendor maintenance. In the event of a hardware outage, the vendor is contacted and the equipment failure is fixed.
DMSP will contact the client and keep them informed throughout the outage process. DMSP maintains an on-site parts depot that contains critical components in case of equipment failure. The on-site parts depot allows DMSP to minimize any downtime.

Backup and Restore Procedures
DMSP performs daily, weekly, and monthly backups of all data housed within the NOC. The backups are routinely taken to an offsite tape storage facility for disaster recovery purposes.
Backup software such as Legato, Veritas NetBackup, Omniback, and ARCServe are utilized within the NOC on a daily basis. DMSP has expertise in the above mentioned backup solutions to perform all backups and restores required by the client.
When implementing a server for a client, the appropriate backup software is installed by DMSP prior to release of the server to production. DMSP will perform all maintenance on the backup and software database.
Remote Connectivity
DMSP has diverse building network egress. This provides dual fiber connections to two different LECS (MFS and SBC) who provide OC-3 Sonet rings for local loop access. DMSP utilizes Tier-1 ISPs who maintain OC-48 and OC-192 backbones for Internet access.
These ISPs provide between 50 and 60 millisecond Node-to-Node SLAs. The ISP SLAs provide 95 to 120 millisecond round trip time including local loop. Packet delivery is 99.3% to 99.5%.
DMSP provides private (point to point) circuits or Virtual Private Network(VPN) connectivity.
DMSP employs multiple CISCO VPN Concentrators to deliver VPN connections to the NOC. SecureID is utilized for authentication using a one-time password generator.
Help Desk Support
DMSP provides an 800 number to the NOC Help Desk.
The Help Desk is answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Help Desk is the first level of service provided by the NOC.
The Help Desk is backed by a full staff of system administrators, network
engineers, and others who are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Email Hosting and Administration
DMSP provides email hosting and management services. We offer Microsoft Exchange and Outlook solutions as well as web based email access.
DMSP can perform all email administration. This service includes adding, updating, and deleting email accounts. In addition, DMSP maintains the email server hardware, software, and database. Daily backups are performed to insure availability of the data in the event of a disaster.
File and Print Administration
DMSP provides a managed file and print environment. Current file and print environments
supported are Microsoft NT/2000 and Netware. DMSP will perform all administration
if requested by the client. This includes adding, updating, and deleting user ids to performing maintenance on
the server hardware and software.
Daily backups are performed to insure availability
of the data in the event of a disaster.
